Peamount Hospital – Laundry Room Electrical Project

Client: Peamount Hospital
Location: Newcastle, Co. Dublin
Project: Electrical Installation – Laundry Room and Residential Supply
Duration: 4 Months
Scope: Full Electrical Fit-Out and Infrastructure Upgrade

Peamount Hospital required a full electrical installation to convert an existing building into a new on-site laundry facility, as well as to supply two newly constructed residential units. The previous space allocated for the laundry room had no power infrastructure in place. JC Group was appointed as the main electrical contractor for the project, tasked with delivering a compliant, safe, and future-proof system within an active site environment.

Project Requirements

The hospital’s facilities team outlined several key requirements for the new electrical infrastructure:

  • Full electrical fit-out of a laundry room in a previously unpowered space
  • New electrical supply to accommodate the additional load of two residential houses
  • Installation of a new distribution board (DB), complete with all safety systems including:
    • Fire alarms
    • Heat and smoke sensors
    • Emergency lighting
  • Provision for future renewable energy integration, including the installation of a mini pillar as requested by the Head of Facilities

JC Group was selected for its proven experience in healthcare environments and its ability to work independently.

Our Solution

JC Group managed the full design, supply, and installation of the new electrical system, working closely with the hospital’s Facilities Manager to meet all requirements and ensure compliance with healthcare standards.

Key components of the project included:

  • Complete electrical load assessment and design, carried out in-house due to the absence of a site-based electrical engineer
  • Installation of a new distribution board (DB) to serve both the laundry room and residential units, with dedicated circuits for high-load laundry equipment
  • Integration of essential safety systems: fire alarms, emergency lighting, and environmental sensors, in accordance with healthcare facility regulations
  • Installation of a mini pillar to allow for seamless future connection to renewable energy sources
  • Coordination with the construction contractor to ensure electrical works aligned with the broader build timeline

Project Timeline & Delivery

The project was delivered on a tight 4-month schedule, with clear communication and phased delivery ensuring smooth progress and minimal disruption to hospital operations.

  • Phase 1: Site inspection and initial assessment, including electrical loading calculations and cabling strategy
  • Phase 2: Infrastructure installation including trenching, cabling, and DB fit-out
  • Phase 3: Safety system implementation—fire alarms, emergency lighting, and sensor configuration
  • Phase 4: Testing, commissioning, and sign-off in collaboration with the Facilities Manager

JC Group’s internal team took full responsibility for technical calculations and compliance measures, ensuring no delays despite no third-party electrical engineer on site.

Project Outcomes

This project successfully transformed an unused space into a fully functional laundry facility and provided reliable electrical supply to support two new hospital residences.

Key outcomes included:

  • Full compliance with healthcare electrical safety regulations
  • Seamless installation of systems supporting current needs and future renewable integration
  • High-capacity supply with clear load management and distribution
  • Delivery within the specified 4-month timeline, despite technical and logistical challenges
  • Strong collaboration with the hospital’s Facilities Manager, resulting in smooth approvals and implementation

JC Group’s comprehensive service model, from design through to commissioning, ensured a successful outcome for both the hospital and its operational needs.

Peamount Hospital now benefits from a dedicated, compliant, and future-ready laundry facility, supported by robust electrical infrastructure that also powers new residential accommodation. This project further demonstrates JC Group’s capability to deliver technically complex healthcare projects on time and to specification.
